III. FUNCTION OF THE LEAGUE

III.A. General League Structure

If a team wants to have practice sessions that is always okay, but we do not allow teams or players to require practice attendances. Players are also not required to make it to game days. If a player cannot attend a and/or any game days, they are still welcome as part of the league, as well as a part of their team. Positions that players play in a game can change however the team decides. There is no limitation to which positions a player can play. Each team has specific, unique color schemes. Due to this, we do require you to wear colors that (as close as possible) match your team's colors on game day. We also have team jerseys if you want to support your team and the league. However, we will never require players to buy team jerseys, and other team members cannot require you to buy team jerseys either. If there is an issue regarding this, please reach out at 680-255-2016. Teams and/or players that do not have acceptable clothing, and SFL approved clothing while actively participating in games, will be required to wear pinnies provided by the SFL.

Teams color schemes: Dead Militia:Blue/Yellow.

Embrace:White/Black.

Glaciers:LightBlue/DarkBlue.

Grizzlies:Maroon/Silver.

Lancers:Red/White.

NEMESIS:Green/Black.

Resistance:Purple/Yellow.

Stormrushers:Black/Red.

III.B. General League Structure

When joining online, every player must read and accept the terms before selecting the checkbox. When the checkbox is selected, that is confirming each player has read and accepted the terms of the league. Anyone under 18 must have a legal parent/guardian sign up and review the terms before signing up on someone's behalf. Once a payment is made, there is no refund available. If you joined the SFL, but want to change teams, there is never a cost to that, you can change teams whenever you'd like. If you don't sign up and don't make a payment, you will not be permitted to play on game day. That includes having someone take your place for a game: they cannot play if they don't sign the waiver and pay. Players can sign-up and/or pay on game day and/or in person. We will always work with players that want to participate.

III.C. Gameplay Rules

The game is to 36 points. How the SFL determines who gets the ball and the side they want to start on is called the Kickoff. Kickoff: 1 player from each team will punt the ball from midfield at the same time, trying to get the ball to initially touch the ground between the 1 and 2 point lines. Whoever is closer to getting it in between the markers wins. If both players get it between the markers, then whoever gets it in next, or whoever is closest to the marker, wins. If the ball goes into the endzone then the other team wins the Kickoff. The ball starts on the 2 point line. There is one first down at mid-field. After a touchdown, teams can go for 1 point from two yards out, or they can go for 2 points from ten yards out. If a defense scores an offenses' point after attempt, they earn double the value of the attempt. 1 point attempt is worth 2 points for the defense. 2 point attempt is worth 4 points to the defense. This is a moderate contact league; expect to be in situations that will require you to get into hands-on, 1-on-1 situations where you may end up in the dirt, or putting someone else in the dirt occasionally. Safeties provide the scoring team 2 points and the ball gets placed 3 yards behind the midfield mark.

Substitutions:

The 5 players that start on the field must play one offensive and one defensive drive before they can substitute a player.

If teams want to substitute during a drive, they can for 1 or 2 plays at most, per drive.

If a team needs 1 or more extra players to have a full team for a week, that team MUST tell the referees and let them get the situation resolved. Any decisions made without the referees' knowledge will be adjusted as needed by the referees. If the team knows they will be short a player before gameday, they should inform the league at (680) 255-2016 to get the situation resolved before gameday.

If there is a medical issue that affects the substitution rule, the referees will work with said players and teams to accommodate.

III.D. Gameplay Rules

Offense
Pass Interference
Putting your hands on a defender and impeding their movement to any extent.
Result: Play is dead. The down is lost, and the offense moves to the next down.
Offense
Illegal Contact
If you initiate a block (make forcible contact with a defensive player) then engage in running a route. The Snapper is the only exception and won’t get a penalty.
Result: Play is dead. That down is lost, and the offense moves to the next down.
Offense
Block In The Back
This is allowed as long as it is not aggressive.
Result: The player that committed the penalty is removed from the game for one play or drive, depending on the severity of the penalty, and cannot be replaced.
Offense
Illegal Play
If the ball is snapped to a player that is not lined up behind the Snapper.
Result: Play is dead, that down is lost, and the offense moves to the next down.
Offense
False Start
If a player passes the line of scrimmage with an advantage over the defense, before the ball is snapped.
Result: There is leeway on this penalty, but when called, the play is dead, that down is lost, and the offense moves to the next down.
Defense
Pass Interference
Making contact with the receiver before they initiate contact with you, or before the ball passes the Line of Scrimmage.
Result: If offensive progress is made, the ball gets placed where the play ended, and the offense gets that down back, and 1 extra down. If no offensive progress is made, then the ball goes back to the Line of Scrimmage and get that down back, and 1 extra down.
Defense
Buffer Violation/Off-sides
If a defender is within the Buffer Zone, and no offensive players are within the Buffer zone, or if a defensive player crosses the Line of Scrimmage with an advantage over the offense.
Result: There is a leeway on this, but if the penalty occurs, the play becomes a "free play" for the offense, and after the end of the play, the offense can choose if they want to accept the play result or disregard the result of the play, and the offense gains that down, and one extra down back.
Defense
Intentional Tackle
Tackling or wrapping a player to slow them or prevent them from making agile moves. If a collision occurs that aggressively contacts a player, even if they do not have the ball, this is still a penalty.

Leaving the line before the ball is caught or hits the ground.
Result: Punt return team starts on the 1-point line on offense.
